The Slot on Carriage form enables you to update the position of a Primary unit on a carriage. The Slot on Carriage form can be used only to change the position of a unit already on a carriage, it cannot be used to attach a unit to another unit with the Carriage role. To attach equipment, you must use the Unit Inspector (on page 1) All Equipment tab (on page 1) Attach Equipment form (on page 1).

The Slot on Carriage field in this form is enabled only if all of the following conditions are true:

Selected unit is a Primary unit in a Unit Combo.
Has a related unit with the Equipment Role = Carriage.
The Equipment Type of the Carriage has the Usable Slots defined.

For more information on defining the slots for an equipment type, see Equipment Type form (on page 1) Chassis tab (on page 1).

To update the slot for the selected unit:

From the Slot on Carriage drop-down list, select the slot you want to assign to the selected unit.

The values of the Slot on Carriage field depend on the Usable Slots defined for the equipment type of the selected carriage. For more information, see Equipment Type form (on page 1) Chassis tab (on page 1).

Although it may be incorrect for multiple Primary units in a Unit Combo to have the same Slot on Carriage value, N4 does not prevent you from assigning the same Slot on Carriage value to multiple Primary units in the same Unit Combo. N4 does not validate the Slot on Carriage field during vessel discharge, or based on the Nominal Length of the Equipment Type.

Click Save.

When you save the new Slot on Carriage value, N4 propagates the same to the selected Primary unit and all the units in the Unit Combo that have the selected Primary unit as a related unit. For example, if a Primary unit has an accessory associated with it, when yo update the Slot on Carriage for the Primary unit, N4 also updates the same for the accessory unit.

The change to the Slot on Carriage value for one Primary unit in the Unit Combo does not have any effect on the other Primary units in the Unit Combo. Further, N4 does not validate if you assign the same Slot on Carriage value to more than one Primary unit in a Unit Combo.
